Clinical Psychologist

Cassandra M. Connelly, Psy.D. (formerly Hershman), whose roots are in Preston County, West Virginia, has been a licensed clinical psychologist since January 2023. She worked for Fremouw, Sigley & Baker Psychological Associates from 2013 to 2016 while earning her undergraduate and first master’s degree. Dr. Cassandra Connelly is excited to return to this practice, providing behavioral health services to the Preston residents and surrounding counties. Dr. Cassandra Connelly was also Queen Ceres the 68th of the Preston County Buckwheat Festival in 2009.

Dr. Cassandra Connelly earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from West Virginia University. She then earned a Master of Arts in General Psychology and a Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Psychology from Marshall University. Dr. Cassandra Connelly was trained as a generalist to meet the unique behavioral health needs of rural and underserved communities.

Dr. Cassandra Connelly earned a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from West Virginia University. She then earned her Doctor of Psychology and Master of Arts in General Psychology from Marshall University.

During her time at Marshall University, Dr. Cassandra Connelly was a member of the inaugural class of the West Virginia Area Health Education Centers Rural Community Health Scholars Program, which allowed her to receive specialized training in rural healthcare. She increased her knowledge of social determinants of health, other barriers to receiving healthcare, and efforts to enhance access to healthcare in rural and underserved communities.

Dr. Cassandra Connelly has worked in a variety of settings, including:

• Integrated primary care (Federally Qualified and Community Health Centers)
• Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC)
• Independent practice
• A group home for adolescent females
• A temporary shelter for adolescents in state custody
• The Psychology Clinic at Marshall University
• A minimum security federal prison for adult males

She also has experience teaching undergraduate coursework and is a member of the West Virginia Psychological Association, West Virginia Rural Health Association, and the American Psychological Association.

Dr. Cassandra Connelly provides individual, couples, and group therapy for ages 12+ to treat a variety of presenting concerns, including:

• Depression
• Anxiety
• Grief
• Adjustment
• Trauma
• Substance Use Disorders
• Other Mental Health Conditions

She can also give the following types of psychological evaluations:

• Presurgical (bariatric, organ transplant, gender-affirming hormone, & surgery readiness)
• Capacity (medical decision-making, financial decision-making), diagnostic clarification
• Diagnostic clarification
• Psychoeducational (ADHD, specific learning disabilities, gifted, Autism Spectrum Disorder)
